Nicole L’Huillier《
(Semilla, and Semilla Manual)》
(Dimension Variable)/2019
This work comprises a manual with seed-making instructions, functioning as a conduit for empowerment. The seed sound device, a small capsule, is ceremoniously buried to symbolize resonance and mutual care. It contains a speaker and MP3 player for playing compositions created with various samples and artificial intelligence collaboration, all rooted in Earth’s resonant frequencies. To experience it, a physical and auditory connection with the Earth is necessary. This seed serves a symbolic role, producing noise and vibrations that thwart underground sensors used by oil and gas companies for exploration. It acts as a resonance talisman, protecting the land it’s buried in, blending art with environmental consciousness.
The manual aims to invite people to join the movement by printing them as posters to diffuse the word and making semillas for their land. Hopefully, we can create a collective network of seeds and build together this underground resistance of resonance and care.

Nicole L’Huillier (b. 1985) is a transdisciplinary artist and researcher from Santiago, Chile. Her practice centers on exploring sounds and vibrations as construction materials to delve into questions of agency, identity, collectivity, and the activation of a vibrational imagination. Her work materializes through installations, sonic/vibrational sculptures, custom-made (listening and/or sounding) apparatuses, performances, experimental compositions, membranal poems, and writing. She holds a Ph.D. in Media Arts & Sciences from MIT (2022). Her work has been recently shown at Transmediale, Sonic Acts, Kunsthalle Baden Baden, Ural Industrial Biennial, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo MAC, Bienal de Artes Mediales, Venice Architecture Biennale, and Ars Electronica, among others.
